I took our BBQ Crock pot chicken recipe and turned it into shredded BBQ chicken. This is a super easy recipe and way to stretch your dollar by shredding the chicken and serving it on a bun. I was able to turn 3 chicken breasts into enough to feed my family for 2 nights!
Crockpot Shredded BBQ Chicken
Ingredients
- 3 Boneless Chicken Breasts
- Cover completely with your favorite BBQ sauce
- Cook on Low for 6 hours or High for 4 hours.
Instructions
- After cooked and tender (3½ hours on high or 5½ hours on low) use two forks to shred the chicken and cook for an additional ½ hour.
- Serve with cole slaw and potato salad (I pick these up at Kroger on the 10/10 sale).
- This meal cost me less than $5.00 total!
- Optional:
- This recipe can be made with pork. We usually use Boneless Pork Loins.
- This recipe can be used with beef. Make sure you check on beef to be cooked thoroughly.

I use a recipe similar to this only it uses Diet Coke and ketchup.
I'm am putting this on my dinner list. I am always looking for new recipes!
Thanks Apryl!
If Diet Coke is heated above 86 degrees, the wood alcohol in the aspartame turns into formaldehyde and then formic acid
Maybe regular coke would be safer? Not sure.
I would not use Diet Coke either.
You can also make this with a jar of free chi chi’s salsa for a mexican burrito night! Sometimes I add the shredded chicken into a taco bake!
A good BBQ sauce that I use for little smokies and have used with shredded beef/chicken is simple and can be used in a crockpot…about 1 1/2 C of Heinz Ketchup, 1/2 C of Smuckers Grape jelly and for a little kick, add a cpl or a few dashes of franks hot sauce ot tobasco. I dont measure, i just do the taste test while making the sauce. Enjoy!
I wonder how turkey breast would do? Has anyone tried it before?
Just got done making this using my free bottle of Country Bobs All Purpose Sauce. Shredded chicken sandwiches with sweet potato fries for dinner thursday.
I have a family of 8 6 of us being teenagers/adults. How many does this recipe feed?
I would estimate 1-2 chicken breasts per teen/adult and 1/2 for younger kids, so just adjust the number of chicken breasts to meet your needs.
