I am home from Camp Blogaway! I not only survived but I loved it. As you know I flew across the country to camp and I am not a camper! In the end I was not sure how I would do but I am happy to report that not only did I survive but I loved it. Of course having the private bunk room really made my camping experience more enjoyable and I thank each and every one of you who helped me win!
Here is a picture of my private room, compared to the bunk rooms…
I enjoyed meeting so many fabulous bloggers like Vanessa who blogs at Chefdruck.com, Anne-Marie who blogs at ThisMamaCooks.com, Robyn who blogs at FabulousFoodFinds, Diane who blogs at CreatedbyDiane and Robyn who blogs at Earthbound Chronicles just to name a few. I was the only non 100% food blogger and though we do blog about frugal recipes and menu planning I wasn’t exactly sure how I would “fit” in at the recipe bootcamp. In the end I met some great people and even made some friends!
Here I am with Anne Marie from ThisMamaCooks.com and Vanessa from ChefDruck.com on our first night.
I heard fabulous speakers including Denise Vivaldo – co author of The Comprehensive Food Styling Handbook and Barbara Gibbs Ostmann, award-winning journalist, expert on recipe writing style and co-author of The Recipe Writer’s Handbook and the Food Writer’s Favorites cookbook. I was so lucky to sit with them on day two and enjoy lunch together. Here I am pictured with them
Other great speakers included Danny Juaregui who blogs at Food Bloggers Unite, Art Ramirez, highly regarded Photography Instructor and Photoshop Expert, Casey Benedict-Pendergast who is the creator and author of TasteStopping, a website devoted to publishing food photography that has been rejected from other “upscale” food photo sites.
I was able to hear expert Public Relations panelists including Nancy Siler, VP of Consumer Affairs for Wilton Enterprises (this was awesome as I taught Wilton cake techniques to my foods students for 11 years), Kim Reddin for the National Onion Association and Rebecca Burgess for Sur La Table, Jessi Langsen who blogs at ToKissTheCook and Brittany Mohr who blogs at sacfoodies just to mention a few!
The food at camp was excellent! Here is a picture of one of our lunches! This was my first blogging conference and I feel like I gained so much from my trip. I was lucky to win not only my registration through Mom Bloggers Club but also had two sponsors, BKW Seasonings and Country Bobs who covered my expenses for my travel.
Of course I must thank Patti Londre who is the creator and fearless leader of Camp Blogaway. She blogs at Worth The Wisk and she also has a sister camp called Camp Get Away. Thanks Patti for choosing me and Larry for giving me a private bunk room
. You opened doors, changed my life and I must say that I am truly thankful for the opportunity!

Cute post! I am working on ours right now and had planned on including the bunk shot. A picture is worth a 1000 words, isn’t it? It was so nice to share cabin 5 with you!
Chris,
That shot is worth 1,000 words for sure! It was so nice to meet you and share cabin 5! Thanks for sharing your pictures with me too

It was so great meeting you, I feel like I made a true friend!
Thanks Diane! I feel the same way
Great post! Can I just copy and paste it and use it as mine? I’ll change the sponsor to Hadley’s and I’ll be done!
Thank you for the link, and mention. It was great getting to know you a bit at camp. I live what you’re doing here and wish you the best of everything implementing all you learned at camp!
Robyn, Of course you can
You are so welcome! I really enjoyed getting to know you too! Same to you
Melissa
Really nice and impressive blog i found today.
Good for you for getting past your fears and attending this camp! I’ve been debating for months whether to go to this camp and/or BlogHer Food but suspect that I’ll chicken out and do neither. I dabble in food blogging and would like to expand, but the thought of going to an event where I don’t know anyone is a bit nerve-racking! :p
great job on have a good time and your dish looks good, I went on camping few weeks back and it wasn’t really pleasant the food didn`t really look appetizing and we had many other problems as well, I hope I can get better experience next time
