Who Burnt the Popcorn – Tips

by shelley on July 29, 2010

Who Burnt the Popcorn?  In our house it is usually Rick, from Stockpilingdads!

Here is what to do.  Cut up a lemon or lime and put it in a microwave safe bowl with 2 cups water.  Cook about 3 minutes.  Then wait about 20 minutes before opening the door.  This should get rid of the burnt popcorn smell.

The topic of this post just brought back bad memories from college. Burnt popcorn caused at least one fire alarm a week where we’d have to evacuate the dorms until the fire department checked the cause of the alarm and declared it safe. Sophomore year during final’s week there were three alarms in one night. And we had to evacuate the building every time.

As for cooking popcorn, I highly recommend purchasing an air popper next time you see one on sale. I got mine on Black Friday at Kohls for $5 after rebate. Buying the popcorn in a buck package is also cheaper and healthier. There’s no chemicals from the microwave bag and you can customize it with as much or as little salt and butter (or other flavorings) that you want.

I will have to remember this tip. My office is right next to the lounge and oh, how I hate that smell since it seems to permeate everything!

Great tip for work. People are always less careful in the workplace, and our break room reeks of burnt popcorn.
