Batteries that are thrown in the trash produce dangerous substances like lead, arsenic, zinc, cadmium, copper, and mercury. These metals are metals we are told to stay away from because they are very toxic. When you discarded batteries they end up in a landfill and they don’t just go away! They eventually leak in to the ground affecting everything in our environment.
What can you do?
Use rechargeable batteries. I try this but I am not a fan of rechargeable for other reasons! We use them because they are better for the environment but I don’t feel they last as long. We also use regular batteries.
When using regular batteries what can I do to preserve them?
Turn things off. I switch the kids toys to the off position constantly. There are two reasons for this! One, I want to save the life of the batteries! Two, I hate waking up at night to “ALL ABOARD” when they are about to run down!
When storing toys take the batteries out!
Always turn your portable devices off! This will save your batteries! Who really needs their Phone all night? LOL!
