Mardi Gras 2011 falls on Tuesday, March 8. Mardi Gras, “Fat Tuesday”, is the last day of the Carnival season as it always falls the day before Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent.
Do you celebrate? I think it is a fun holiday to celebrate with the kids. Here are few fun and frugal crafts you could make.
1. Mardi Gras Necklace: String colored shaped pasta on a string/yarn and make your own “beaded” necklace.
2. Mardi Gras Noise Maker: Take two paper plates and put beads/washers or anything that makes noise inside. Staple or glue them together and decorate with streamers/ribbon.
3. Mardi Gras Masks: Print out this template and trace it onto cardstock. Decorate with sequins, feathers, buttons, glitter, markers or whatever is in your craft closet. Use a stretchy cord/ribbon/yarn to attach!

When it comes to Recipes I would suggest making a Three Kings Cake. Check out this step by step how to make a Three Kings Cake at AllRecipes.com. We are lucky that we can purchase these at our local bakery however making them is so affordable! You can find the babies at your local craft store. I would suggest checking Michaels, Hobby Lobby or JoAnn Fabrics.
Another idea is to just take a loaf of bread and ice it then roll it in purple/green/yellow sprinkles! You could even simply make cupcakes decorated with green/purple sprinkles as an alternative! If you wanted too you could add a “baby” to some for fun!
