DIY Easy Pencil Holder

I love this DIY Easy Pencil Holder. My sister in law is a middle school teacher and when I asked her what the one thing is that she would love to receive as a gift, she responded “PENCILS!”  She said throughout the year she is always in need of spare pencils, especially around test time, for her students to borrow.  Create this easy and cute pencil holder to gift to your child’s teacher this year so there will always be some No. 2 pencils at hand!  As an added bonus, I got these 24 pencils on a back to school sale for about $1!

Supplies:

  • Jar or vase
  • Adhesive
  • Piece of scrap paper
  • Stickers or ribbon
  • Tag (optional)
  • Pencils
  • Washi tape  (aka: tissue paper tape – optional)

Step 1:  Measure and cut a piece of pretty scrap paper to fit around your container

Step 2:  Wrap the scrap paper around the container and adhere with adhesive

Step 3: Decorate the jar or container with stickers or add ribbon (I found these cute alphabet stickers on Etsy)

Step 4 (Optional): Cut a tag to attach to your container

Step 5 (Optional): Use washi tape to add a cute flag to some of the pencils. (I only did about 12 pencils in case a student didn’t want a polka dot pencil!)

Step 6:  Add the pencils to the container

  1. It would be helpful to use something other than glass for the container for when the first student knocks it over (and someone will!)
