This is a great tip for how to crack and separate an egg with a butter knife. When I was teaching Home Economics I learned this trick from the Kentucky Egg Council and it works like a charm. I always use the blunt side of a butter knife to crack my egg instead of the side of a bowl or my counter. The butter knife gives a clean break and works especially well on Eggland’s Best, Cage Free, Organic and Farm Fresh Eggs because the shell is harder than normal eggs.
Here is how you do it:
Step 1: Strike the egg with the blunt side of a butter knife.
Step 2: Using the opening spread your egg open.
Step 3: Split your shell in half.
Step 4: Gently use the shell to separate your white from your yolk using the broken shell.
Step 5: Separate your yolk into one bowl and your whites in another.
