Yes you can! It is great for green smoothies and to stretch your budget!

Can you freeze spinach? Yes you can! Simply rinse and pat dry and then place into a freezer safe bag. By freezing you can extend the life up to a year. Just write the date you put it into the freezer with a permanent marker so you know how long it has been there. Frozen spinach is great for green smoothies.  This is a great way to save money.  Purchase spinach when you find it on sale or manager’s special and freeze it to use later.  If you are on the green smoothie journey with me you will enjoy this tip.  You may also want to check out this post – Can you free green smoothies.

Another method for freezing spinach for green smoothies is to blend the spinach with water and place into ice cube trays.  Simply freeze then place into a freezer safe container.  When you are ready to use add them to your blender.  I personally prefer the bagged method myself.

Does freezing spinach give it the texture of what you would get if you bought frozen spinach? How would you use this in ways other than for smoothies? (We like spinach, but usually only buy canned for the shelf life)

It is crunchy and if you thaw it is is more like traditional frozen spinach.
