Can you freeze ginger root? Yes, you can! There are so many health benefits to using fresh ginger. I keep fresh ginger in my fridge all of the time. There have been a couple times that I needed to freeze fresh ginger to extend the shelf life. I have found fresh ginger root it on manager’s special at the grocery and purchased it to freeze too.
It is simple to do. Fresh, unpeeled ginger can be stored in the refrigerator for up to three weeks and in the freezer for up to six months. Simply place it (with peel on or peeled) in a freeze safe container. Write the date you put it into the freezer with a permanent marker so you know how long it has been there. To thaw frozen ginger root just place in your fridge for 24 hours and use. If you are using it in a green smoothie you can use it frozen. Also check this post on how to cut ginger root.
I personally use fresh ginger root in my green smoothies every day.
