As you know in January 2013 we transitioned the focus of StockpilingMoms.com from a “traditional” Deal blog to a Lifestyle blog. We really have never been a traditional “Deal Blog” because we have always posted recipes, menu plans, DIY, Household Tips and more but we stopped referring to our blog as a “Deal blog”. We reduced the number of posts from 20 daily to 12 (wow what a relief we felt). This was in part because deals just aren’t as good as they used to be and we really wanted to offer you a wider variety of ways to save money – not just limited to coupons and deals.
From day one we have always been dedicated to helping busy families make savvy choices in all aspects of their lives including – recipes, meal planning, organizing, money management, health and wellness, decorating, crafts, travel and more and we continue to be dedicated to our mission. The blog is continually changing as Shelley and I change and grow as women. I am sure those of you who have followed us from the beginning know that.
It has been a year since Kroger announced that they will no longer double coupons in the NKY/Cincinnati/Dayton region. Not long after that Meijer followed behind. So we are now no longer living in the land of doubles. Remke does still double which is small local chain however they just don’t have the buying power that Kroger offers in terms of pricing. We are working on a series of posts about how we are still able to save money and save strategically using coupons and how that is different for us now. We hope you will enjoy the series!
Last May we announced that we were cutting back on the number of posts that we were going to schedule daily. This was a change from 12 posts to 6-8 posts daily. We made the decision to change the blog schedule (effective June 1, 2013) so that we could spend more time with our boys over the summer. We decided to continue posting deals and coupons but streamlined into less posts per day and of course continue with our regular content, store deals and recipes. Our hope was that you would enjoy having less to sort through in terms of reading the blog. What we found out is that our readership actually grew as a result!
We were really worried about making the change in our blog schedule but we are happier and better mother’s as a result. Shelley has two children with special needs. As a result she spends numerous hours at tutoring, therapy and Dr. appointments. The change in the blog schedule has allowed her more time to be able to be available for her boys. She still works hard to bring you deals each day including but not limited to online deals, coupons to print daily, coffee deals, magazine deals, clothing deals, Black Friday Deals, Cyber Monday Deals, Back To School Deals and she looks for legitimate offers that don’t make you jump through 100 hoops. In fact she actually signs up and tries every offer before she posts it.
We are lucky we made the decision because when I found out that I had to have my 2nd open heart surgery the change in our blogging schedule really helped us get through a difficult time in our lives. What I have not shared openly with you is that my husbands job was eliminated on September 1, 2013 and at this time he has not yet been able to find a job. I am going to share how our stockpile and coupons have helped us during this difficult time in an upcoming post. I hope it will be something useful to help others.
Effective 9/1/13 we made the decision to stop posting Meijer Store Matchups when Meijer announced that they would no longer be doubling Coupons. We also chose to stop the Walmart Matchups in 10/1/13 because Walmart is regional and pricing was not the same even in our own area from store to store and we were unable to provide a matchup that was accurate for all of our readers. We also cut CVS and Walgreens back to a Drug Store Deal roundup but we just found there wasn’t really much interest in that either. Of course at this time I was facing my 2nd open heart surgery and Shelley and I were just hoping that I was going to survive. Luckily I did!
What we want to share with you is that quality store matchups take hours to complete per store and based on the amount of readers that were actually clicking on our matchups and the time in producing a quality matchup this is how we came to the decision to focus on only one store. Of course, if there are awesome deals somewhere and we see them we will tell you about them. For example, we let everyone know when there is a super double at Remke or stockpile priced items at other stores.
We chose to continue with our Kroger Matchup because this is where we shop most often and because the majority of our readers visit our Kroger Matchup. Not only do we post a Kroger Matchup each Saturday we also post an Unadvertised Deals matchup on Monday to help you save even more. To find those unadvertised deals we physically WALK up and down every single aisle of the store every single Monday to share with you.
Our team consists of Shelley, myself and Stephanie our assistant. That is it! We are just two real Moms who co-own this blog and we are here to help you save money in all areas of your life. We are not sharing any of this for sympathy we are sharing it because this is who we are and we make decisions on our blog schedule and content based on YOU – the readership tell us when a post or topic is important by you clicking it and by sharing and liking it on social media. When you leave comments, like it, or share it this is how we know. We also look at our traffic to see which topics get the most clicks – this is how we know. For 2014 we are going to continue posting just like we always have and we are dedicated to our mission statement.

We both work 365 days a year on this blog. We have not taken a vacation without a computer in years and our holidays are consumed with finding deals for our readers. Our busy season is November and December when others are vacationing we are working harder than ever. We are fine with that because we love this blog and we love helping you but we wanted to share with you that there is never a “day off” for us. Shelley posted almost every half hour through the holidays with deals to save us all money. We do this because of our dedication to you our readers and our mission to helping busy families make savvy choices in all aspects of their lives.
At the end of the day we are happy with our decision and hope that this post gives you insight that we don’t take lightly any post that share with you.
