This quick recipe for Easy 3 Ingredient Banana Bread is delicious! I could not believe how good it was with such simple ingredients. All you need is 3-4 ripe bananas, eggs and a box of cake mix. Yes, you can make great tasting banana bread with a box of your favorite cake mix. Last week I had some bananas that were getting ripe and I needed to use them up so I decided try this easy recipe.
This Easy 3 Ingredient Banana Bread is moist and delicious. I had everything I needed to make it in my kitchen. So I got busy mixing all the ingredients together. Simply mash the bananas in a large bowl, then add remaining ingredients and mix well. Spray 2 small loaf pans or 1 large loaf pan with non-stick cooking spray and divide the batter and pour into two loaf pans. Next I topped one of the loaves with mini chocolate chips. I love chocolate chips on everything, well almost everything so I decided to add them to one loaf. Next, I put them in the oven and baked at for 35-40 minutes at 350 degrees. You might need to bake a little longer if using 1 loaf pan.
Best of all you can easily make this gluten free when you use a gluten free cake mix or you can use a sugar free cake mix! Without the additional oil this is actually a lower fat version of traditional banana bread. Some readers thin it has a bit of cake texture but my family thought it was great. I like to keep yellow cake mix on hand and make this when I have surprise company visit. It is also nice to be able to make when I have over ripened bananas on hand. Another great tip is to use a spice cake mix. Our readers tell us that makes an amazing loaf of bread!
I do love this delicious warm banana bread right off the of the cooling rack. If you have extra simply store in an airtight container. It makes great housewarming gifts too!

No just the eggs and bananas
I just took two pans out of the oven. Just 2 eggs, cake mix and I used 4 bananas. It more of a cake then bread. I actually added some fresh blueberries to one of the loafs.
That sounds really goid! I’ll try that too. I have mixed berries that will go great .
No just the bananas nd eggs
Just the bananas nd eggs do not follow directions on the box
If using one loaf pan, you’ll have to bake 50-60 minutes
Could you sub chocolate box cake instead of yellow to make chocolate banana bread?
Yes, that would be awesome!
THIS IS AMAZING
Can you use this same recipe for muffins?
Yes!
Can you use the gluten free cake mix?
Yes!
Can i use a 9 x13 pan instead?
A better substitute would be 9-inch square cake pan (1½ inches deep) or (2) 8-inch round cake pans
(1½ inches deep)
I’m trying with a red velvet cake mix and reese pb chips…
i didn’t have a yellow cake but i used a butter pecan super moist cake mix and just used the three bananas and 2 eggs.. didn’t have walnuts but it turned out awesome… thank you .. 🙂
If i follow directions on box then add bananas and eggs will my cake come out more moist ? Or will it ruin the recipe I’m trying to make a banana cake
You do not follow the box, you use this recipe instead.
I made this using spice cake instead of yellow cake and added some walnuts and WOW!!!!! even my husband raved about it!! I will never use any other recipe now!!
I’m SO glad I saw your comment! Because of it, I used the spice cake mix, and WOW!! Super delicious! I’ve made this about 5 times now & only use the spice cake mix. Thank you stockpilingmom for the recipe, and thank you Shelly for the awesome tip!
I made this and used a bundt pan. It turned out so good it was gone in a matter of hours.
Can this be done in a bread machine??
I have no idea. I don’t own one 🙁
Made this today with triple chocolate fudge cake with a peanut butter and cream cheese filling. YUM!
If I use a bundt can, how long should I bake it for?
It should just take a little longer. I would add 5 minutes and check for doneness and then just check again every 5 minutes until done.
What size loaf pan and can you use only one pan?
While waiting for a response to my question, I went ahead and baked it in a 9/5 loaf pan. I also added blueberries, and chopped pecans. It came out great and is almost gone! Family loved it, as did I. Will be making it again. Thanks for a great recipe.
I made these as muffins and baked for 27 minutes in a 350 preheated oven. After lining the muffin tin with liners, I filled it about halfway with the batter, sprinkled a mixture of butter, cinnamon, sugar and flour that I mixed to the consistency of wet sand, then filled the muffin tin with the batter and sprinkled more of the butter cinnamon mixture on top. The muffins came our flavorful and moist with a nice, crunchy muffin top. Hubby loves them. Says I should go into the muffin business. Thanks for this easy recipe.
That sounds amazing!
Can you cook this in the crockpot? And if so for how long?
We haven’t tried but I bet you can. Maybe try 2 hours on low?
This is a great recipe thank you! I was wondering how long it lasts and does it need to be refrigerated?
You can refrigerate to extend the life but I would keep in an airtight container. We never have it last more than a couple days here 🙂
Could you freeze half the batter? It is only my son who eats Banana Bread and the last time we made this AMAZING recipe he didn’t eat it fast enough and it went bad. He usually eats this for breakfast and for games
No but you can bake it and the freeze the bread 🙂
I made this and it came out great. FYI I have 2 diabetics in the house, I switched out the regular cake mix with Pillsbury sugar free cake mix and it came out fantastic. Big Hit !!!
Great recipe! Leaving on a trip and needed a recipe to use 4 overripe bananas. I already had a butter pecan cake mix so I was able to use it instead of running to the store. Made a delicious loaf of banana bread to start our vacation.
Looking to make the recipe more like cake and not bread any suggestions
Thank you
I would add another egg if you want it to be more cake-like. But I think it’s perfect just the was it’s written. Mine was very light. I did add about 1/4 cup of oil
I love love love this recipe, I make it all the time! Does anyone know if you could substitute the bananas for a can of pumpkin to make pumpkin bread?
Oh yes, I think so!
I am making it first time right now.
Yellow cake mix, 3 bananas, 2 eggs, 1/2 c. Peanut butter chips, and 1/2 c. Walnuts. In a bundt cake pan. We will see! Smells fantastic!
This is a very versatile recipe I feel. That’s the type I like. I made it with peanut butter chips. Who doesn’t like peanut butter and banana. It was Elvis Presley favorite! I also added the walnuts. I have to put nuts in most of my breads accept the lemon poppy seed. I baked it in a bundt cake pan for the time that was stated. I added a cream cheese glaze to the top of it and it is amazing.
I made mini muffins. I added walnuts that I cut really fine (kids claim they don’t like nuts) so that they added a little protein. Baked them for 12-14 minutes and they were done. I got 48 mini muffins from the one batch! We love them!
Could this be made with zucchini instead of bananas?
Not sure about that but I bet it could! Maybe add a little applesauce too. Let us know if you try it!
Use a mixer or mix by hand?
I used a hand mixer.
If I used a spice cake mix, is there a glaze or frosting you recommend? I also have a white cake mix that I could use blueberries with… Thoughts? Love all the responses, super encouraging.
(:
Ignore my stars!!!! I accidentally clicked them before sending and it went to 1, I had 5! *****
In Denver here just about 5600 ft. How do I adjust this recipe for high altitude?
Reduce baking powder: for each teaspoon, decrease 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon.
Reduce sugar: for each cup, decrease 0 to 2 tablespoons.
Increase liquid: for each cup, add 2 to 4 tablespoons.
Increase oven temperature by 25 degrees F.
Thanks!
I used super moist butter pecan mix. Added an extra banana (4 total) an extra egg (3 total) and 8Tbsp of water. I hand mixed the batter. It is very important at high altitude to not over mix. And I baked for 45 mins at 375° in a bundt pan. It turned out amazing! Thank you for the recipe. I will never make banana bread any other way!
If I can do it I’m saying anyone can make a perfect banana nut bread every time!
This was the absolute easiest recipe ever!
After reading all the comments I cant wait to explore other flavors etc.
Five Stars for sure!
Thank you from Lisa in Texas!!

Not everyone. Lol. First time trying it and messed up already. Lol. Should have read the comments before making. I followed the receipt on cake box. Gurr.
4 bananas, 3 eggs, half cup oil.
I sure hope mine turns out. I love banana bread ☹️
I would love to try this recipe using both bananas and avocado. Would I change the amount of eggs??? Any suggestions???
Hmmm. I do think it might. I would go 1/2 the amount of banana’s and the other 1/2 avocado.
Made this. Easy, good, not great.I would make it again if I needed it in hurry
I only have 2 banana’s and the cake mix and eggs. Will 2 do instead of 3?
Give it a try! You can always add a little applesauce if you have it.
i want to try one with chocolate chips, how much did you use, and what did you do to make that one???
Just stir in a 1/2 cup or desired amount and bake 🙂
Making this now.. As muffins to freeze for quick breakfast or desserts.. Added a bag of chocolate chips but after reading the comments i can see all sorts of possibilities. Thinking i have some frozen cranberries i will have to try this with..
You will love the diversity with this recipe! 🙂 Cranberries sound yummy!
