All you need for this simple, but tasty meal is beef broth, package of dry onion soup mix or you can use our homemade Dry Onion Soup Mix Recipe and 3-4 lbs of beef roast. Place everything in the slow cooker and put on the lid and let it slowly cook all day. Cook on low 8-10 hours. Before serving on hoagie buns, shred the meat and let it simmer in the broth for 15 minutes or so. I let the meat marinate while I toasted the hoagie buns in the oven for my hubby and me. We thought it made the meal even better!
To prep this as a freezer meal – Place the meat and dry onion soup mix and 1 quart beef broth in a ziploc freezer bag. Label it: Cook on low 8-10 hours, Shred meat and marinate in broth for 15 minutes, Serve on hoagie buns. Freeze. When ready to cook simple place in the fridge for 24 hours to thaw. In the morning place this into the slow cooker and place the lid on the crockpot. Cook on low for 8-10 hours. This is a great recipe for busy days. Simply dump the recipe in the crockpot and go about your business. When you are ready to eat your slow cooker will have done all the hard work.
- 1 qt beef broth
- 1 package dry onion soup mix
- 3-4 lb beef roast, any cut or choice(I used pot roast)
- hoagie buns
- provolone cheese (optional)
- Place everything in the slow cooker and put on the lid.
- Cook on low 8-10 hours.
- Remove meat and shred, place back in the crockpot for 15 minutes to marinate.
- Serve on hoagie buns and with broth to dip in.
