Over the weekend I took my boys to an event in downtown Cincinnati called Recess in the Stadium. This is a free event that was held at Paul Brown Stadium, which is home to the NFL team Cincinnati Bengals. The American Heart Association partners with Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and the Cincinnati Bengals to bring awareness for a healthy lifestyle. They want to promote exercise to be a part of every child’s life for a healthier heart.
Children who are signed up for the event receive a water bottle and t-shirt upon entering the event. They then have the opportunity to go down on the field and complete several physical activities such as a 40 yard dash, catch a pass, punting, soccer drills, tumbling and much more.
This was the sixth year for Recess in the Stadium and it was a huge success. The family and I had so much fun being together and doing all of the different stations. The children were able to get face painting, free stickers and sunscreen. During the event you were able to get a snack consisting of a banana, a KIND granola bar, tea and a bottled water. You can sign up for free online.
They even had health stations to check your blood pressure and to teach children how to perform CPR. They even had a set up station to see the difference of a healthy heart versus a non hea;thy heart. You could put gloves on and even touch them. My children were a little grossed out at this station, but they were educated on what a healthy heart is.
This is a great event for all children! Children up to 16 years old can participate. Be on the lookout for this amazing free event Recess in the Stadium next year. It is always held the first weekend of June. Afterwards you can even walk over to the river and play in the water park like we did at the new Smale Riverfront Park!
