I am in love with this DIY Travel Art Center.  If you have a long weekend coming up with a vacation or road trip this DIY Travel Center will be perfect!  If you have young kids in the car then you know one of your biggest challenges is keeping them entertained in the backseat to avoid the “are we there yet” questions.  This travel car art center will *hopefully* curb the boredom and keep those little ones occupied while you’re on the road.

The flat surface will provide a good surface for coloring and the magnets on the bottom of the tin will keep all of the supplies in one place.  (As a side note and reflection on doing this DIY myself…don’t put crayons in your tin and leave them in the car during the hot summer days! Ours all melted together in a big hunk of greasy mess!)  This is also a great upcycle too!

    DIY Travel Art Center:

    Supplies:

    • Cookie sheet from your favorite $1 store
    • 1 empty can – I chose a peanut container so that it would have a lid
    • Scrap of pretty paper
    • Double stick tape
    • Magnets found at any craft store
    • Primer spray paint
    • Spray paint color of your choice
    • Optional: Letter stickers

    Step 1:

Prime your cookie tray with a spray paint primer on both sides.

    Step 2:

Once your primer has cured for a day, spray paint both sides in your color of choice.

    Step 3:

Wash and dry your container.  It is important to make sure there are no sharp edges on your container!

    Step 4:

Measure and cut your piece of scrap paper to fit around the container, secure with double sided tape.

    Step 5: (Optional)

Personalize the container with letter stickers.

    Step 6:

Place magnets on the bottom of the can.  The bottom of my container was metal so I did not need to use glue.

    Step 7:

Fill your container with markers, colored pencils, crayons, or stickers.
