It is so easy to make your own Homemade Frozen Shredded Hash Browns. It is time consuming, but you can make a very large batch and save money for your family. My kids love to have hash browns, but they can be a bit pricey at the store for a small bag. So I decided to try and make my own. Boy am I glad I did because it worked! So now my family can enjoy Shredded Hash Browns more often.
All you need is peeled russet potatoes, grater, large baking sheet and a freezer bag. Now it does take some time but you can make as much as you want to freeze. I decided to grate a whole bag of potatoes that I got at the store for $0.99 because they were on sale. As I grated the potatoes I put them in a large bowl that was filled with cold water and had 1 Tbsp of salt.
Once I was about half way done, I drained the bowl and layered the shredded potatoes on the baking sheet. Put that in the freezer to flash freeze them. To learn more about flash freezing click here. I filled the bowl back up with water and salt and finished the rest of the potatoes. I got the baking sheet out from the freezer and scooped the potatoes and placed in the freezer bag. I repeated the steps with the rest of the potatoes.
When it was time to cook them, I heated vegetable oil in a large skillet over med-high heat. Add the Homemade Frozen Shredded Hash Browns and let cook for 6-7 minutes then flipped them over to finish cooking. My family loved them and couldn’t tell a difference that I had made them. If your family loves hash browns as much as mine, then be sure to try doing this!
