If you are in the Chattanooga, TN area you must go see Rock City. It is actually located at 1400 Patten Road in Lookout Mountain, GA however it is only 6 miles from downtown Chattanooga, TN. We recently took a weekend getaway with our family and it was an amazing time. When you visit Rock City you will see breathtaking views. It is an all natural wonder! It is best suited for someone who enjoys the outdoors but there are a couple of shortcuts if you don’t want to do the entire hike through Rock City. If you complete the hike it will take about an hour and 30 minutes. You will see Lover’s Leap, Observation Point and Seven States Flag Court.
One of our favorite parts of Rock City was the legendary “See 7 States” view that is 1700 feet above sea level. You can see how many states you can count on one of the telescopes (cost is $.25 to use) or feel free to bring your own binoculars. There is also a lovely patio where you can enjoy a snack and drink or you can purchase a meal at Cafe 7. Rock City is simply breathtaking and depending on the weather you can see some of the best scenic views.
I do suggest that you wear comfortable clothes and shoes for your Rock City Visit. I also recommend that you bring a camera because the views are amazing. In addition I would be sure to pack water and snacks.
Peyton’s favorite was the Swing-A-Long Bridge that spans 180 feet! It was a little scary to cross but the views were breathtaking! If swinging bridges aren’t your style they also offer a stable bridge that you can cross. Rock City is a true botanical and geological wonder! Along the walk through the woodland garden path there are over 400 native species of plants, trees and shrubs offer beautiful texture and color. It was an educational day too! they have signs and stations that you can call in and listen too with your cell phone.
It was really a lovely place to spend the day and our minds wondered to a relaxing place. We thought of what it must of been like to first discover this magical undiscovered land named Rock City. The natural wonders of Rock City never lose their ability to enchant and amaze! You will explore monumental rock formations like Grand Corridor and Needle’s Eye before reaching the whimsical Mushroom and Tortoise Shell rocks. We also had the opportunity to see Fallow Deer in their natural habitat and lots of other beautiful formations. It is a true geographical and botanical wonder!
Leashed Pets are always welcome at Rock City but just be sure they are able to walk for at least 1 and a half hours during the exploration. You can easily complete the entire walking path in that time or easily you can extend your stay at Rock City for longer. I believe that Rock City is a bucket list destination! I highly suggest a visit if you are in the Chattanooga area or driving by. They offer free parking and there are lots of shops and places to dine if you are interested. This is a great destination for kids for sure!
Disclosure: Rock City provided our tickets for our review however all opinions are 100% our own.
