The Powerful Health Benefits of Chia Seeds

The Powerful Health Benefits of Chia Seeds are amazing to me.  How these tiny seeds could be packed with such goodness literally blows me away.  Chia Seeds were prized more highly than gold by the mighty Aztecs, Chia is a nutrient-dense super seed with remarkable levels of nutrition.

In addition to its high fiber content, Chia is the richest known vegetable source of Omega-3 fatty acids.  It has 3X the antioxidants of blueberries, more calcium than milk, more Iron than spinach and it is a better protein source than beans or soy.  I personally enjoy Chia Seeds for all of the above health benefits listed.  Dr. Oz also advocates using Chia Seeds for their powerful health benefits.

    How To Eat Chia Seeds:

Chia Seeds have a nutty flavor and are a perfect addition to beverages, smoothies, soups, sauces and baked goods.  You can sprinkle it on cereal, oatmeal, yogurt or salads for a great fiber boost!  I personally love Chia Seeds in my green smoothies.

I add a tablespoon or two every morning.  Another breakfast that I love is a Greek yogurt with 1 tablespoon of Chia Seeds then 1-2 Tablespoons of sliced almonds topped with fresh raspberries.  It is amazing!   A great way to start your day or even perfect for lunch or an afternoon snack.  By combining the yogurt with the Chia Seeds, you are getting a great probiotic boost!

I do suggest that you eat them in moderation.  Start with ½ Tablespoon and then increase to up to 3 Tablespoons a day depending on the amount of fiber you may need.  Look for  a brand that is grown organically and gluten free too!  I normally purchase mine at Vitacost.com.

Thanks for this great information here about Chia seeds. Like you, I am really amazed by these tiny seeds. One thing I really love is, Chia can deliver over 40% of your recommended daily value of fiber in a single serving! And fiber is critical for all aspects of well-being and health.
