If you are on a vegan or plant-based journey but want to reap the benefits of the ketogenic diet, you totally can.  These Vegan Ketogenic Diet Tips are a perfect way to focus on your health needs without going off plan.  Being a vegan doesn't mean you can't enjoy the benefits of a high protein and high-fat diet to shed extra weight.

    Vegan Ketogenic Diet Tips

The first thing you need to remember when approaching the ketogenic diet as a vegan is that you do not have to sacrifice your morals or preferences for food to stay in ketosis.  There are so many amazing foods out there that are delicious, plant-based, and easy to add to a ketogenic diet.

Focus on protein versus fat.  One of the best tips for a successful ketogenic diet is to focus on an increase in your protein instead of an increase in fat.  Your goal is to limit carbohydrates which make sugar and force your body to burn existing fat.  Adding more fat to your diet isn't always going to be a good idea.  That doesn't mean you can't enjoy fats it just means you should focus more on the whole foods that include healthier fats.  Instead of choosing a deep fried item, pick up some nuts, avocado, or olives.

Adapt your favorite vegan recipes.  There should be a limit to your carbohydrate intake.  To some people, that would mean that some of the more popular vegan protein sources like beans may be something you need to cut out of your diet.  This isn't entirely true.  Yes, you will want to limit some things you would normally eat (bread, oats, pasta).  It doesn't mean you have to strip your diet of all good things.

For more recipe ideas, you can check out Meat Free Keto.  There are tons of great ideas to adapt.  Focus on things like fresh vegetables, nut butter, nut milk, and healthy fats like avocado, olives, and coconut.

Enjoy vegan product substitutions.  If there is any time that using ready-made vegan products is helpful, this is it. While you won't be eating dairy cheese like others, you will be able to enjoy some almond and cashew milk versions.  Kite Hill, Field Roast, Tofutti, Treeline Cheese, Miyoko's Kitchen are all excellent cheese brands that offer many low-carbohydrate options. Another amazing option is the Follow Your Heart brand VeganEgg.

It does take a bit more work to follow a vegan ketogenic diet, but it is well worth it for your health.

Love the tips here. A vegan version of the keto diet feels almost impossible at first and there are certainly more areas to consider. But, it's nice to see that the idea is at least possible, especially with enough planning.
