    What is Oil Pulling?

What is Oil Pulling? How swishing oil can heal your teeth, gums and naturally whiten your teeth!

I was first introduced to Oil Pulling a year ago. When I heard about it, I thought that it was a CRAZY idea. How could swishing oil in your mouth benefit you? And then I decided to try it. I figured how would it possibly hurt me and if there were any benefits it could only help. So I gave it a try.

    What is Oil Pulling?

Oil Pulling is an all natural remedy that uses cold pressed oil (raw) to clean and detoxify teeth and gums. It has the added benefit of whitening teeth naturally and is helpful in improving gums and removing harmful bacteria. It also believed to detoxify the body.

    How do you Oil Pull?

Place 1 tablespoon of raw Cold Pressed Oil (I like Coconut Oil) and place it into your mouth. Swish the oil in your mouth pressing the oil against your teeth, gums and tongue for at least 10 but up to 20 minutes but DO NOT SWALLOW the oil while you swish. You should do this first thing in the morning on an empty stomach and before brushing your teeth for best results. After Oil Pulling spit out the oil.  Do NOT spit it down your drain or in your toilet.  Spit it in a Ziploc bag or other disposable container.  The oil and toxins can damage your plumbing.  Then rinse your mouth with water (some like to use salt water) and finally brush your teeth.

    What Oil Should I Use?

Cold Pressed (raw) oil is the best. Coconut, Sesame, Sunflower and Olive Oil are good choices.

How Often Should I Oil Pull?

I personally do it twice a day. Once in the morning and once before bed for a week. Then I move into a daily routine of each morning. One of the great added benefits is that you will start seeing your teeth get whiter too!

    Does Oil Pulling Really Work?

I am not a scientist but I can tell you that Oil Pulling works for me. I have Candida Yeast Overgrowth and often times suffer from Thrush. Oil Pulling will treat my Thrush and helps kill the Yeast and remove it from my body. If I ever have sore or inflamed gums or inflammation in the roof of my mouth it helps to treat and heal quickly just by oil pulling.

I have had three friends who oil pull share their experience with me and I want to share their stories with you.

    Oil Pulling Testimonials:

The first is my Chiropractors husband. When I told her that I was going to try Oil Pulling she shared with me that her husband used the technique for 1 year and healed his teeth that were full of cavities and avoided a Root Canal as a result. He pulled Oil for 1 year daily and as result avoided over $40,000 in dental work and only had to have 2 cavities filled instead of the over 20 when he first went to the dentist. He was in a great deal of pain due to the dental work that was needed but chose to try Oil Pulling and it worked successfully for him.  He is a believer in the benefits and thankful he tried it instead of paying for the dental work that they said he needed.

My friend Vicki came over one day and was in a great deal of pain and upset that she was going to have to have a root canal. She didn't have the money in her budget so I shared with her the story about Oil Pulling and how it worked for my Chiropractors husband. She went straight to the store and started Oil Pulling 3 times a day. One week later she told me that she was in no pain and cancelled her root canal! A year later she has had no issues at all with her teeth.  By Oil Pulling she saved herself pain and thousands of dollars!

My friend Stephanie (who is also our assistant) had a really bad toothache and even made an appointment to go see the dentist. After talking to me she went to the store right away and got some virgin unrefined cold pressed coconut oil ($8.99 at Kroger). She scooped out a tablespoon and put 1 drop of Oregano Essential Oil on it. She put it in her mouth and swished around for 20 minutes. She instantly felt some relief but the pain was not gone. She continued to Oil Pull 2 times a day and by the 3rd day her toothache was gone! Now she does oil pulling everyday with the coconut oil but not with oregano. She uses OnGuard, Clove or just the coconut oil by itself. (You are NOT supposed to use Oregano more than 10 days in a row because it will effect the bodies flora). Her mouth is fresh and clean and now she has sparkly whites as a result with best of all no pain! She never went to the dentist!!

    Oil Pulling with Essential Oils:

Essential Oils have natural healing benefits so by adding essential oils to the cold pressed oils you can see additional benefit.

    Natural Teeth Whitening:

So an added benefit of Oil Pulling with Coconut Oil is that many people see that their teeth whiten.  So even if you don't have a teeth or gum issue you can choose to oil pull for the benefits of Teeth Whitening and to remove unwanted toxins from your body.

I hope this post helps you. If you have been told you need a root canal there are other natural remedies out there. Not only will oil pulling pull the toxins from your body you will also benefit from whiter teeth. If you have Candida Yeast Overgrowth oil pulling will help you.  I honestly haven't been able to find a reason NOT to oil pull. It does take time into your routine and I often oil pull while I am in the shower to save time. Even oil pulling 3-5 times a week is better than not at all. It is a healthy alternative to over the counter (chemical filled) oral hygiene and as a bonus you will see your teeth whiten and you will feel better with the toxins removed!

So I would love to hear if you have tried Oil Pulling?

Disclosure:  I am not a health professional and I am not providing medical advice.   The practice of Oil Pulling has been around for thousands of years - long before toothpaste and mouthwash.  I always seek out natural remedies when possible to avoid chemicals.  This is my opinion.  Thanks!

I will continue to do this everyday! Each and every day I see more and more improvements from doing it. I feel so much better and it's a great feeling to know that I am taking toxins out of my body. Also I bought my jar of coconut oil at Kroger back in the beginning of December and am still using it and the jar is only halfway gone! Thanks for telling me about it Melissa!

I just started this a few weeks ago and I can tell a difference. I have sensitive gums that sometimes bleed, and I havent had the problem since. Having a brighter smile doesnt hurt either. I also use coconut oil in my hair it makes it super shiny.

I heard someone talk about that they were "oil pulling" but I didn't know what it meant.

      Now I do.

I'm all for whiter teeth and removing toxins the natural way. I'm not good at gargling so I wonder if this would be a problem for me? May be worth a shot to see. Take before and after pictures too.

      Thanks for the information!

I am not good at gargling either - the great thing is this is just swishing in your mouth 🙂
