Why buy canned tomatoes when you can do it yourself?

Why buy canned tomatoes when you can do it yourself? As you know we put in a garden this year. We planted 18 tomato plants unsure of how many would "make it". I was quite thrilled when 17 out of the 18 not only made it but have been thriving all summer long. Not quite sure what to do with all the tomatoes I decided to ask my neighbor if she would teach me how to can.

She has been canning her entire life so I knew this was the perfect teacher for me. She not only taught me but also bought me a Ball Canning book. This is the perfect book when you are learning to can, for more information click Ball Canning. It is a step by step guide and one that I would highly recommend to anyone who is starting out. So far this summer I have canned 21 quarts of tomatoes and I am sure that there are many more quarts in my future...as my plants are still full of green tomatoes!
