Big Bone Lick State Park is in Union Kentucky and located close to nearby Cincinnati, Ohio for those wanting to check it out. It is only about 15 minutes away from my home, so it is perfect for me to take the kids there for some adventure, a picnic lunch and family fun. Big Bone Lick State Historic Site is located at 3380 Beaver Road Union, KY 41091.
Big Bone has lots to offer from a public campground, museum and Bison to see. The campground has 62 sites with utility hook-ups, grills, bathrooms with showers and a swimming pool. There is a grocery store and pets are allowed too. Campground is closed from November 1 to March 31. For more information call 859-384-3495.
My children love to explore the museum and read the facts. They have recently begun to make improvements on new sites. It is very educational, but fun for kids at the same time. If you or your family loves the Ice Age period then this is a must do museum for you! We then head to the trails for some hiking fun. The kids love pointing things out. We then head to see the Bison. The bison usually comes right up to the fence and viewing area.
Park is open year around. However the museum hours are 8:30 am to 4 pm daily during April 1 – October 31. From November 1 to March 31 it is open Monday thru Friday 9 am to 3 Pm. I highly suggest visiting if you are close in the area.
