I was all hyped up to try this and realized I didn't have the ranch seasoning pack or all the ingredients to make some. So, I took a gamble and used what I had which was Lipton Onion Soup Mix! lol!! Oh my goodness! That was soo good!! I served it over yellow rice ( my son's favorite) I think white rice or egg noodles would be good with it too! Next time I will add potatoes and veggies. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe with us! My kitchen is happy!! 💜💜💜

Melissa@StockpilingMoms
I would reduce the time in half.
Lisa
No it won't dry out

I tried this today and it's delicious! My chicken did dry out a tiny bit so it could use some kind of sauce. What do you suppose would work? Think I'll double the ranch packets next time though. I'd like it a bit tangy-er

I would like to try this recipe using a creamy Italian dressing mix. What you think?
Melissa@StockpilingMoms
I think it would be good. Let us know what you think if you try it.
Kia
Probably user error because I'm not a good cook but I tried this today, with some small cut up pieces of red potatoes and it was a bust 🙁 not sure what I did wrong but the chicken looked really rubbery, not browned like yours and the potatoes never got cooked all the way. I put it all in the oven for awhile hoping to save it but it still was super bland and didn't look very appetizing. Your picture looks delish! My 5 yr old wanted PB&J instead. Oh well. Any suggestions?
Melissa@StockpilingMoms
Well, there are actually no potatoes in this recipe 🙂 I am not sure because mine was delicious and tasted full of ranch flavor. Did you follow the directions?
Dana
It sounds like you didn't cook it long enough. The chicken should of been super tender not rubbery. I usually start my crockpot first thing in the morning around 7-8a.m. on high and then at noon turn to low and by supper time 5-6p.m. everything is cooked perfectly and tender. I hate that yours turned out bad. Once you get the hang of crockpot cooking it really is a breeze.
Lisa
I put the chicken in the crockpot added ranch seasoning and butter I didn't use stick butter then I added potatoes, carrots, and corn then added another package of ranch seasoning also added garlic powder, garlic salt, salt, black pepper and some more butter cooked at 350 for 4 hours stirring occasionally and it came out amazing everyone loved it and I'm not a good cook and as it cooked I added a little more butter so I'm not sure
Jennifer Collins

Melissa@StockpilingMoms
Yes, that would work for you.
Lisa
I just added extra butter and ranch seasoning and a couple other seasoning and stirred occasionally and as it cooked I added a little more butter
Brooke Demoss

Quite frankly the best recipe I have ever made. I've been making it ever since I saw it in your original emailing and my family asks for it by name. My son is going off to college in a few weeks and I'll ba making some and freezing it for him when he is on his own in his apartment. Simply delicious and so easy. BTW I only cook this in the crockpot and it turns out perfect every time.
KM PERRY

I made this and my chicken was dried out and burnt! I used chicken tenderloins I think it was. Should I have changed the time or something?!
Shemeka
It was skinless boneless chicken breast tenderloins!
Melissa@StockpilingMoms
Yes, the tenderloins cook much faster than chicken breasts.
Laura
Just placed this in crockpot. I used butter from tub and four frozen chicken breasts. Crossing my fingers it satisfies the hubs! From the comments I am hopeful!
Becky Dufala
Omg! This chicken is AMAZING! Just got my crockpot yesterday for my bday and I couldn't wait to use it. Was looking for an inexpensive dish to make that only used a few ingredients. And this one was well worth it! Can't wait to make it again, and pass it on to my friend!!!
uprunforlife

This recipe is amazing and sooo easy!!! I made my own ranch spice since I didn’t have any packets. Also added a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese along with the spice and it turned out delicious!! My 6 year old daughter was begging for seconds and wanted it for lunch at school the next day! ON the way home from practice the next day my mom offered to grab her something on the way home and she said No I want mommys chicken! (Oh I also doubled the recipe so we had a lot)! Actually making it again right now!!
Crystal Lopez
Wow, I can't get over how easy this is. I love simple slow cooker recipes. This is perfect. And pairs easily with rice and salad which are staples at our house. Adding this to my meal plan soon!
Savina

Sounds yummy to me!
Deanna

Melissa@StockpilingMoms
Unsalted.
Jill Nuckolls
Do you have the macros for this?

If I use chicken drumettes instead & bake in the oven, how long do you think they should bake?
Melissa@StockpilingMoms
I would go with 30 minutes at 350. Just be sure they are thoroughly cooked. 🙂
Sarah
I'm thinking about adding a block of cream cheese towards the end. Do you think that would be good, or just stick with the butter?
Melissa@StockpilingMoms
I think you can never go wrong with cream cheese!
Kim
Instead of using butter can I use cream of chicken?
Melissa@StockpilingMoms
You can give it a try.
Jen
Has anyone made this and added rice in the pot, or know how to do it successfully?
Melissa@StockpilingMoms
Yummy!
Persiasbloom
Is it the 1oz package of Ranch Dressing Powder that you are speaking of? I have the 16oz shaker container.
If so, then that's roughly about 2-3 tablespoons right?
Can't wait to try. Sounds delicious
Melissa@StockpilingMoms
Yes!
Amber
Can I cook it on high for 3-4 hours instead of 8 on low
Melissa@StockpilingMoms
Yes!
Amy
I'm trying this tonight. Used 4 chicken breasts, one packet of Aldi brand ranch mix, around a third of the butter and substituted some olive oil in (probably not the same amount total but it's what we had). Hoping it turns out! 🙂
Melissa@StockpilingMoms
Sounds like it will be delicious!
Linda Swafford

Melissa@StockpilingMoms
You can cook on high. No problem!
Shelby
How long on high would you cook this?
Melissa@StockpilingMoms
3-4 hours.
Shelby
If the chicken was still frozen and you put it on high how long should it cook for
Melissa@StockpilingMoms
Same length. No need for more time.
Catherine
Good morning! Is this 4-6 breast halves... Like 2-3 pounds? I'm thinking of subbing boneless skinless thighs, and trying to make sure we have the right amount of meat. Thanks!!! Looks yummy!
Melissa@StockpilingMoms
Yes, but you can use whatever amount that would feed your family size. Skinless Boneless Chicken Thighs work great for this recipe!
Angelina Gallegos
I followed the recipe but the chicken turned out to dry..
Melissa@StockpilingMoms
Did you cook it on low temperature?
Melissa B.
For me, I never cook chicken breasts longer than 5 hours on low. Any recipe is dry if you go longer. I am excited to try this recipe but I will limit to 5 hours on low.
Melissa@StockpilingMoms
You will love it!
Melissa
Hi! I forgot to take my chicken from the freezer last night. Can I do this when frozen chicken breasts?
Melissa@StockpilingMoms
I have with no problem 🙂
Victoria
Did everything come out alright with the frozen chicken? I forgot to take my chicken out last night so I was wondering if I have to cook it longer or just the 8 hours?
Melissa@StockpilingMoms
No need to cook longer!
Jennifer
I can't tell you how many people I have given this recipe because it is so extremely easy and delicious! My husband and kids are very picky and they all love this meal. I usually serve it with roasted red potatoes and a vegetable.
Corie
Has anyone tried making this in an instant pot? I’d want to know if I need to add any liquid?
Nicole
I have and cooked semi frozen breasts for 30 minutes. It turned out wonderful. No liquid just melted a little butter on the bottom before throwing the breasts in.
Michelle
Can you cook this recipe in 5 hours on high
Melissa@StockpilingMoms
I would do 3-4 on high.
Barb Onken
The picture looks like it got brown on top (I'm guessing from the butter?) My family doesn't like "mushy" chicken from crockpot, but the looks a little "Crisp" ??
Melissa@StockpilingMoms
It is not mushy but you can always broil it for 5 minutes in the oven once you are done too.
Chantel Slinger
Your recipe sounds wonderful and I can’t wait to try it! I do have one question, however, that I need for clarification. You refer to a “slow cooker” and also a “crockpot”. Are these not two different kitchen appliances? And if so, is there any variation on time and/or ingredient amount adjustments that need to be made. I, personally, own a crockpot and want to make sure I get this right! Thank you so much!
Melissa@StockpilingMoms
They are the same. A crockpot is a brand name of slow cookers 🙂 Great question!
McKenna
Has anyone cooked this in pressure cooker. If so how long did you cook it for?
Janie
I used chicken thighs and coated them in some ranch seasoning mix and seared them in a cast iron before. Turned out amazing!!
Michelle
If I wanted to make this with only two frozen chicken breasts, do I need to cut down on the ranch seasoning or butter? Or change the cook time at all?
I plan on making it this weekend for only my daughter and I while my significant other is deer hunting since he doesn’t like ranch. (Blasphemous, I know!)
Melissa@StockpilingMoms
I would use 1/2 the packet 🙂 Enjoy!
Michelle
I used two very large frozen chicken breasts, about 3/4 of the ranch packet, and the entire stick of butter on high for four hours and it turned out great! So delicious! Thank you!
Erica
I'm trying this tonight!
Kellie
Loved this recipe! I’ve shared with many ppl but I’m cooking it in the Instant pot tonight! Have you tired this and found the right amount of time to cook?
Melissa@StockpilingMoms
We haven't tried it in the Instant Pot. If you figure it out please let us know so we can share.
Nancy
I'm trying it now...will pass along the results. I'm doing 2# chicken
Audrey
How did this turn out? Thinking to try it in the instant pot tonight but idk how long etc
Joanne Morgan
Could I add some vegetables, like broccoli?
Melissa@StockpilingMoms
I wouldn't add broccoli until the end or it will become mush. Brussels Sprouts and Corn on the Cob might hold up better.
Jasmine
I'm trying this tonight for my family. I was thinking of adding onions and maybe cheese? What do you think?
Melissa@StockpilingMoms
Think it would be delicious!
Allison
What a super easy, yummy dinner! I made around 2# of boneless, skinless chicken breasts, from frozen, cooked in my instant pot for 24 minutes. I let the butter melt on suaute first, then added the ranch and chicken. We paired with mashed potatoes and green bans, it will definitely be in our dinner rotation!
elizabeth coan
Am cooking boneless skinless chicken thighs tonight. About 3ilb. Used a bit of onion flakes and garlic pepper, 1 ranch packet, BBQ sauce (about .1/2 cup or so), chicken broth (have no idea how much) and some leftover ranch cucumber dressing. I think it will be delish.
Heather
I put this on this morning before I left for work on low. Absolutely wonderful!! Juicy & very delicious!!
Susan K Gregory
Tried this the other night and my husband loved it. I added a can of cream of chicken soup as I read someone else did and served it over rice. Granddaughters loved it as well..
Morgan
I have the the ranch dip packet not the ranch mix packet! Will they work the same.?
Melissa Jennings
Yes!
Ashley Lee
I want to make this, i don't have a stick of butter, is it okay if i use butter from a container? if so how much would you recommend?
Melissa Jennings
A stick of butter equals a half cup from a container. You can substitute one for the other but your recipe might turn out differently.
Jessica
Can you cook this on high ? And if so for how long ??
Melissa Jennings
For 1/2 the time on high.
Rebekah
I’m making this as we speak! If 8 hrs on low makes it too tough (as said in someone’s comment) how long should I cook it for?
Melissa Jennings
Go for 6 hours.
Becky
Wow, I loved wow easy this dish was! I made it on the stove top with boneless skinless chicken thighs. Served with mashed potatoes and green beans. My husband was thrilled, my teenager said, "Huh, not too bad," which in teen-speak means delicious! Thanks for another yummy recipe.
