Easy Crockpot Ham & Northern Beans is a great 3 ingredient dinner recipe! Takes less than 5 minutes to put it all together in the slow cooker and then let it simmer all day. Dinner cannot get much simpler than that and if you are looking for a great dinner for less money this is the one. Feeding a family of five can become quite pricey sometimes so I like to make meals with beans in it.

Easy Crockpot Ham & Northern Beans is a great 3 ingredient dinner recipe!

Beans are a great source of protein and cost relativity cheap when buying in bulk. For this meal I used 1 pound of northern beans and they only cost me $1.19, cottage butt ham that I got on sale at Kroger's for $4.69 and I made cornbread from a box mix that was $0.50. So, the grand total I spent was $6.38 but divide that by 5 people and it comes out to $1.28 per person!

To prep as a freezer meal place bean, ham hock, garlic, salt and pepper into a freezer safe bag.  Freeze.  When ready to prepare thaw in the refrigerator overnight.  Add water and cook on low for 8-10 hours.  It is that simple. This is one of my 10 Crockpot Freezer Meals.

Be sure that you invest in a good quality slow cooker.  Our favorite is this programmable cook and carry 6qt oval slow cooker.

But the best thing about this Easy Crockpot Ham & Northern Beans is the taste. It is a comfort food for me and reminds me of my childhood growing up. My mom and grandma would make this dish all the time because we had a large family, and this dinner went a long way. I like to serve Sugar Cornbread along with it.  I hope you enjoy it as much as we do.  This is a naturally gluten free recipe.

How do you make this one as a freezer meal? Just put ham and beans in the bag? Or do beans not need frozen?

Do you use dry beans? If so do you soak them overnight before freezing?
