How to cut a pineapple? This method is easy and has the least waste.

How do you cut a pineapple? You don't need a fancy tool. All you need is a cutting board and a nice, serrated knife. This method is easy and has the least waste. First cut the top off and reserve if you are hosting a party.

Next cut the end off.  Now take your pineapple and cut into (4) wedges.  Simply slice the core off of each quarter as pictured above.  At this point you can simply slice your quarter from the rind and make individual slices so you can turn your pineapple into a centerpiece if you are hosting a party or a luau.

Pineapple Boats are fun for a luau or pool party!

If not, you can enjoy the pineapple or use it for a recipe!  We like to garnish our wedges with toothpicks and maraschino cherries for a fun luau themed healthy treat!!  Add a lei and paper umbrella and you have a beautiful creation!

How do you select a ripe pineapple?  Simply tug on the leaves.  They should come out easy if the pineapple is ripe and ready to enjoy!  You don't want the leaves to be brown or dry or fall out too easily.  You want to give a tug and it comes out easily.  Also, always check the bottom for mold or signs of decay.  That is another sign that the pineapple is past its prime.
