    Flat Lick Falls Kentucky

There is nothing more beautiful in Kentucky than Flat Lick Falls. We went to visit this waterfall and had a great time. It is a hidden gem in Jackson County, Kentucky.

If you are looking for water and adventure then look no further than Flat Lick Falls Kentucky. It is an easy hike and can be viewed from the overlook. Trust me on this one. If you haven't been now is the time to go.

Flat Lick Falls is nestled away in the hills of Jackson County. As we drove the windy roads I kept thinking is this going to be worth the drive. As we approached the falls I quickly said, "this was WORTH the drive". It is absolutely beautiful and breathtaking when we see them.

Flat Lick Falls includes not only the falls but also including camping, picnic shelter and restrooms. There is over 85 acres of wooded land, cliffs and Flat Lick creek running through the middle of the property. The 28-foot water fall is breathtaking. It empties into a large pool at the bottom of the falls.

Best of all you can view the falls even if you are not a hiker! The falls can be seen from a paved path that leads to a wheelchair accessible viewing platform. Or if you are adventurous like we were then they can be viewed up close by hiking down a short path (it took us 15 minutes). Of course the reward to hiking is a nice swim in the crystal clear water.

If you hike on a warm summer day there is nothing better than splashing or swimming in the bottom of the falls. Just keep your eyes out for snakes 🙂 I do suggest wearing shoes while you swim.  This area is perfect for hiking, photography, repelling and even camping.

Flat Lick Falls is gorgeous. The pictures really don't do it justice. There is so much greenery, rocks and wildlife to enjoy. It is the perfect spot for picnic or snack after a nice hike and swim. We found the picnic area to be extremely clean. Flat Lick Falls provides the perfect destination for a summer escape especially on a hot summer day.

If you are looking for a camping location in KY there are 5 primitive tent sites with level gravel pads and grills along the creek.  There are 8 RV campsites currently under construction and hopefully they will open soon.

There is a really nice picnic shelter with picnic tables available to use.  The shelter and tables can be reserved for reunions and events.  Call 606-287-8562 to reserve. It would be a great destination for a party or reunion with lots of natural entertainment.

Swimming in the creek and falls is allowed, but jumping off the falls is not as it is extremely dangerous and could be fatal. Do NOT jump off the falls. Even if you see someone else doing it I urge you not too.

Directions to Flat Lick Falls: Take US 421 to Gray Hawk.  At the US 421 and Hwy 1071 Junction, turn west on Hays Road for 100 feet, then turn left on Lower Hays for 1mile, then turn right (just before the low water bridge), and go ½ mile, then turn left into Flat Lick Falls Recreational and Scenic Area.

Trust me on this. Plan a trip to Flat Lick Falls this summer. It is absolutely the highlight of our summer adventures. The falls are breathtaking and the experience is one that my kids will never forget.
