No matter which diet journey you are starting on, it can be difficult to stick to it at first. Those first few days or weeks that it takes for it to become a habit can be really hard. It is during this period that sticking to the diet can be tricky. These tips will help you to stick with your Ketogenic Diet so you too can see the awesome results.

Tips for Sticking with the Keto Diet

We love sharing with you about our healthier lifestyle. The Keto diet is just part of that journey. With increasing popularity, I knew it would be perfect to share some more tips for sticking with the Keto diet with our readers to start this year off on the right foot.

    What is the Keto Diet

The Ketogenic Diet is a low carbohydrate diet that focuses on burning fat for energy instead of relying on glucose (sugar) for energy. It is this process that gives you ketones hence the name ketogenic diet. If you are totally new to this, make sure to check out our Ultimate Guide to the Ketogenic Diet for Beginners.

    Start Small

When you are excited about the possibilities that a new diet can bring, it is easy to want to dive in headfirst and go full speed ahead. However, when you dive in headfirst you are more likely to sink.

Starting very small will help make the transition easier which will mean that the diet is much easier to stick to. When you start by changing something small it is easier to make the commitment stick. You could start by adding in a few minutes at the gym a couple times a week and changing one meal at a time. As these become habits add in other small changes.

If you start small the commitments won’t be near as daunting as if you were to dive in headfirst.

    Repeat Meals

Planning to eat the same meals repeatedly can help you to stick to your Keto diet. If you plan to eat the same meals multiple days in a row, the planning is taking care of. When the planning is taken care of, it is easier to stick to it because there is no panic when it comes to finding something to eat.

Don’t worry though, this doesn’t mean you are stuck eating the same meals for the duration of the diet. You can still have some variety but, save it for the weekend when you are home from work. Bring Your Own Food

Bringing your own food when you go places will keep you on track and make it less likely to cheat if there aren’t any Keto diet approved foods at your destination. This could mean packing a bag of snacks to keep you filled up until you get home or, bringing full meals for yourself. Either way, if you have Keto approved foods with you it is much easier to stay on track.

    Don’t Punish Yourself

Even bringing your own food doesn’t 100% guarantee you won’t slip at some point and have a non-Keto approved snack or meal. There is bound to be a time when you forget or plans change and that is okay. If you happen to slip and have something that isn’t approved on your Keto diet, don’t punish yourself for it. Be okay with the fact that had a non-Keto food and continue forward with your Keto diet. One oops doesn’t mean that your progress is wiped away. Jump back on the Keto train and everything will be fine.
